The 3 day IBAAS Symposium at Vizag comes to an end on 29th November with a number of eminent speakers presenting their technical and marketing papers covering both the upstream and the downstream sector of the aluminium industry. A number of significant issues have been highlighted like the Raw Material Security, Non-Metallurgical Bauxite Industries, Waste Reutilization, Energy Efficiency and Downstream Applications. The speakers have brought into light a number of new technological innovations in the entire value chain of aluminium. The new addition to the symposium, however, have been the growing significance of the downstream sector. A number of important papers have been presented on the global and the Indian downstream industry and its potentialities.
Tom Albanese, CEO, Sesa Sterlite, Soma Mondal, Director Commercial, Nalco, Niu Heng from Chalieco and Anupam Agnihotri, Director JNARDDC were all guests of honor on the first day of the conference and participated in the lamp lighting ceremony. IBAAS president, Vinod Sood, Vice-president H Mahadevan and conference convener, Ashok Nandi welcomed the honorary guests initiating the official launch of the event. All the speakers unanimously reiterated the amazing development that is taking place in the field of aluminium in China and highlighted the potential for the alumina and the aluminium industry in India. Mr. Tom Albanese strongly advocated the advantage India has over China in terms of resources, capabilities, technologies and energy which could be the perfect growth driver for the aluminium industry in India.
Nearly 200 delegates have come together for this event from countries like China, Australia, Belgium and other countries who are intimately connected to aluminium production.
During the second day, there were three parallel sessions running simultaneously, the first one on Bauxite and Alumina, second was on Aluminium Smelting Environment and Waste Management and the third one on the Downstream Aluminium sector. Hindalco, Chalieco, Sapa, Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd. (Balco), Sesa Sterlite, National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco), CRU, ISRO, JNARDDC, GAMI and Madras Consultancy Group were some of the esteemed companies and organizations whose delegates presented their papers during the sessions. A number of companies from Australia presented some important papers on alumina/aluminium industry as well as on waste management and energy efficiency.
The third day also saw a number of technical presentations on the topics of bauxite and alumina during the parallel sessions. At the common sessions panel discussions took place on way forward for Bauxite, Alumina Refining, Aluminium Smelting and Downstream Operations. Overall the event relevantly highlighted the upcoming positive phase in the aluminium sector.
