As per IAI, America’s alumina production has registered a Year-on-Year growth of 3.52 per cent from 10.352 million tonnes in the first three quarters of 2022 to 10.717 million tonnes in the first three quarters of 2023. Therefore, America has contributed around 10 per cent to the Q1+Q2+Q3 world alumina production in 2023.

According to the International Aluminium Institute’s (IAI) data, the world alumina production is presently at 105.968 million tonnes, joining the first three quarters of 2023, which is 74.5 per cent of the total world alumina production marked at 142.227 million tonnes in 2022.
We can hope that the last and final quarter will be fulfilling, but the transition to green energy resources might hamper production to a certain extent in the American sub-continent. Moreover, the shift to recyclable materials might also curtail the production of raw alumina.
In 2022, North and South America together produced 14.048 million tonnes of alumina, of which 6.816 million tonnes were yielded in Q1+Q2 2022, and the rest of the 7.232 million tonnes were generated in Q3+Q4 2022. There was a Quarter-on-Quarter growth of 6.1 per cent in 2022.
In the first two quarters of 2023, America collectively produced 7.144 million tonnes, which is 4.81 per cent higher than the production in the same period in 2022. Also, in Q3 2023, America produced 3.573 million tonnes of alumina, 49 per cent of the total American alumina production in Q3+Q4 2022 and 3.37 per cent of the world alumina production in Q1+Q2+Q3 2023.
When we consider the world alumina production, an identifiable Year-on-Year gap of 1.04 per cent can be seen from 70.174 million tonnes in the First Half 2022 to 69.445 million tonnes of alumina produced in the First Half 2023. On the other hand, America has seen a Year-on-Year influx of 4.8 per cent if we compare the same period.
