Hydro announced on Wednesday, July 12, that its extrusion business unit in North America achieved Aluminium Stewardship Initiative Performance Standard V2 certification. Twenty-three of Hydro's hundred sites in the US and Canada obtained the certification after being audited by the independent, third-party firm DNV.
On receiving the certification, Charlie Straface, President of Hydro Extrusion North America, said: "We are pleased to reach this ASI certification milestone in North America. The speed and breadth of this effort is an excellent reflection of Hydro's dedication to sustainability and responsible business practices."
To acquire ASI certification, a production site should conform to the stringent governance standards, policy, management, transparency and reporting, environment and biodiversity, social issues, labour rights and much more.
Jerrod Hoeft, responsible for Extrusion North America's Commercial Transportation & Sustainability segment, said, "We have seen increased demand from our customers in North America for greener products and greater transparency. With this certification we are sending a clear message to the market: When it comes to sustainability, we are the leader in North America."
These sites will also likely get ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard Certification after evaluation in the coming year. Hydro's other extrusion sites in North American locations are also working on respective certification processes.
