The Norway headquartered company, Hydro provides two aluminium bridge decking technologies: (i) Aluminium isotropic deck technology (ii) Aluminium orthotropic deck technology.

Bridge deck projects have successfully used both technologies for decades. There are many bridge applications where aluminium decking is feasible, according to evaluations funded by the US Federal Highway Administration.

The metal aluminium applied in bridge construction helps to accomplish more projects at lower cost and in less time and also minimizes traffic disruptions during rehabilitation and repairs.

In comparison to traditional steel and concrete construction, aluminium bridge technologies offer several advantages: (i)The use of aluminium facilitates rehabilitation rather than a replacement (ii) Recycling the metal is an easy and profitable process (iii) Lower maintenance costs result in lower lifecycle costs (iv) With a decreased dead load, old bridges can be widened on the existing substructure (v) Pre-assembling bridge decks or replacing bridges saves time.
