What had originally been founded as Norwegian Hydro-Electric Kvælstofaktieselskab eventually transformed into Hydro in the course of time, and in this scenario, over a century. The journey had begun in 1905 at Rjukan, Norway, as a collaborative effort of Kristian Birkeland, Sam Eyde and Marcus Wallenberg gathered in Oslo. They had established the company based on hydropower with the humanitarian vision of helping the starving world.
Slowly and steadily, this hydropower plant conquered milestones and metamorphosed into a global industry that aims to serve society and promote sustainability. At COP3 held in Japan, the ninth CEO of Hydro, Egil Myklebust, stressed the importance of collaboration between the government and business industry, stating, “Governance must regard business as their partners” and search for alternative measures, initiatives, and negotiate agreements “in order to limit greenhouse gas emissions.”
Achieving these monumental accolades has been possible with the power of collaboration. The growth and flourishing of Hydro have seen the effectiveness of collaboration at every step of its journey, such as development, innovation, technical advancement or financing and problem-solving matters.
The current CEO Eivind Kallevik, and the former CEOs Hilde Merete Aasheim, Svein Richard Brandtzæg and Eivind Reiten reflect on their journey at Hydro and emphasise the motto of showcasing three core values - ‘Care, Courage and Collaboration’, which has brought the company this far.
Hydro celebrates its enduring capacities in an ever-changing world that has borne fruit, and it is able to utilise industrial power for humanitarian and societal causes. Thus, over the many years, Hydro has thoroughly upgraded itself, working on modern aluminium and renewable energy.
