Herefordshire Council has expanded its household recycling rules to include aluminium foil, foil trays, foil-lined tubes and plastic tubes such as toothpaste and cosmetic packaging.
{alcircleadd}The council said the update is intended to make recycling easier for residents by allowing more commonly used household items to be collected through existing recycling services.
According to the council, items that may previously have been discarded as general waste can now be placed in household recycling bins if prepared correctly.

Elissa Swinglehurst said the changes are aimed at helping residents recycle more everyday materials while reducing confusion around accepted items.
The council advised households to rinse items before disposal, ensure they are dry and remove remaining product from tubes where possible. Residents have also been asked to leave lids and caps attached to tubes during recycling.
To improve sorting and processing efficiency, the council recommended scrunching aluminium foil into balls before placing it in recycling bins.
Recyclables should also be placed loosely in bins rather than inside plastic bags, according to the updated guidance.
The move follows similar recycling policy adjustments introduced in other parts of England, including Worcester, where local authorities also expanded accepted packaging materials to simplify recycling practices for households.
The council said the broader list of accepted materials is intended to encourage greater participation in recycling and reduce the amount of recoverable material sent to general waste streams.
