Heesen bags contract for a full-custom 57-metre aluminium yacht

EDITED BY : RUPANKAR MAJUMDER 3MINS READ

The shipyard's DNA will be fully expressed in Project YN 20857, also known as Project Setteesettanta, which will have distinctive technological and design aspects.  One of the few shipyards in the world that specializes in building lightweight aluminium yachts, Heesen was the first to use the incredibly fuel-efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form, a ground-breaking design by van Oossanen Naval Architects that can save fuel usage by up to 20%.

YN 20857, which is 57 metres long and has an interior volume of 920 GT, perfectly complements the shipyard's line of products. Heesen is an expert at utilizing its cutting-edge shipyard in Oss by offering a well-balanced selection of Custom, Smart Custom, and Series yacht designs.

The yard is currently building 14 yachts ranging in size from 50 to 80 metres, in steel and aluminium. Deliveries will continue until 2026. With a workforce of 1,000 skilled technicians and craftspeople, the shipyard in Oss and the bespoke cabinetry workshop in Winterswijk are busier than ever.

The YN 20857's owners are experienced boat owners and former Heesen customers. They have ordered a yacht that will meet their needs as the ideal platform for beautiful days at sea with family and friends, having learned from the extensive usage of their previous vessel. However, the exterior lines of this new project were designed by Omega Architects' Frank Laupman, while the interior was designed by Cristiano Gatto Design.

Cristiano Gatto said, "We have created a strong bond with Heesen over the years. We have been working on full custom yachts and their successful series.”

“Our relationship with the shipyard is exciting and inspiring at the same time. The mutual trust and the deep knowledge of our respective processes have strengthened over the years, and today it's reached new heights with YN 20850. This new project possesses all the characteristics to become the crown jewel in Heesen's fleet, and I'm sure it will create many ripples, just like MY Crazy Me did ten years ago!"

Report on Future of Aluminium in Transporation Sector

Hugo Morgan-Harris, the owners' technical team lead on the build, said, "We are delighted to be supporting our clients in their new build of Project Setteesettanta at Heesen. We were fortunate enough to come in for the final stages of the build, trials, and delivery of their first Heesen, so we already have a great insight into their preferences and the technical aspects of Heesen's work. The interior design team at CGD was also involved with the previous build, so we have a solid foundation for this new full-custom project."

Friso Visser, the CCO of Heesen, said, "We are extremely honoured that our clients have entrusted us with the build of a new yacht for the second time. YN 20857 will be a quintessential Heesen. Lightweight aluminium construction requires particular skills. A full-custom, the 57-metre motor yacht cannot be anything other than perfect, and there isn't a shipyard with a better knowledge of the techniques and disciplines needed to reach these heights. This memorable journey will lead to the creation of a dream, and we can't wait to enjoy it with the owners of YN 20857 and their team."
