The high-quality aluminium products supplier, Hammerer Aluminum Industries (HAI), tracked towards a consistent green electricity strategy, as reported by the company. Accredited for the massive commitment, the aluminium expert has already been able to significantly refine its CO2 balance. HAI is fully dedicated to the green energy transition, as it is purchasing 100% CO2-neutral electricity from renewable energy sources.
At the two largest locations of the HAI Group, in Ranshofen, Austria, and Soest, Germany, only "green" electricity has been used for two years. With this change in 2020, around 21,000 tonnes of CO2 have been saved at these two locations alone, according to the company. However, at the two Romanian HAI locations, since January 2021, electricity has been supplied from renewable sources. Accordingly, the majority of the group’s business has already accomplished the energy transition.
Rob van Gils, CEO, HAI Group, said: "Green energy is part of our sustainability strategy along the entire value chain. This underlines our commitment to contribute to a better future and shows that aluminium is part of the solution to the ambitions of the EU Green Deal.”
The company locations themselves are also used to generate environmentally friendly electricity. The 6,300 square meters photovoltaic system built on the company roofs in Ranshofen in 2019 was expanded by a further 3,000 square meters of collector surface at the beginning of 2021. One of the largest PV self-consumption systems in Austria has thus been expanded again. HAI has already saved around 500 tonnes of CO2 annually at the Ranshofen location with the solar power generated on its roofs. The renewed expansion of the PV system will increase this value again. Further photovoltaic projects at other company locations are already in the starting blocks.
