Hammerer Aluminium Industries’s re-melting and casting operations at the HAI Santana S.R.L. facility has received ASI Performance Standard Provisional Certification. The plant in Romania produces billets and rolling ingots from recycled aluminium scrap for automotive, electronics, transportation, building and construction sectors.
Markus Schober, Managing Director of Hammerer Aluminium Industries said, “We are very proud that HAI Santana is the first facility to achieve an ASI certification in Romania. And we are delighted that shortly after the ASI certification in Ranshofen, the casting in Santana also received the certificate, underlining the high standard of our CASTING division. For us, the sustainable design of our business processes is a task that can only be achieved by joining forces at all HAI-locations.”
The ASI Certification is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process. The independent, third-party audit of the HAI Santana S.R.L. facility was carried out by TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH as a ‘desktop’ exercise with a remote review of relevant documentation.
The Provisional Certification has been achieved under the ASI Interim Policy regarding Audits, Audit-Related Travel and Coronavirus, which clarifies the reasonable accommodations that can be made to audit plans in consideration of the current COVID-19 situation, ASI said.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “ASI congratulates Hammerer Aluminium Industries on the Performance Standard Provisional Certification for their HAI Santana S.R.L. facility, the first facility in Romania to achieve an ASI Certification. Our members operate in international supply chains worldwide, and each certification in a new country serves to demonstrate their global approach to implementing responsible production practices regardless of where they operate. This certification marks the 40th country worldwide with an ASI certified facility.”
