MA Aluminum Co., Ltd. has announced a strategic investment to double its production capacity for aluminium pipes with internally threaded surfaces, also known as torsion pipes. This expansion will address the increasing demand for high-quality aluminium piping in the air conditioning industry.
The Japanese aluminium products manufacturing company will invest JPY 500 million (approximately $3.1 million) to establish a new torsion pipe processing line at its Fuji Works facility in Shizuoka. Scheduled to commence operations in November 2025, the new line will enhance the monthly production capacity from the current level of over 50 tonnes to more than 100 tonnes.
This significant increase in production capacity reflects MA Aluminum Co., Ltd.'s mission to serve its clients better and meet the burgeoning demand for aluminium piping in air conditioning systems.
The innovative torsion tube manufacturing process
The torsion tube from MA Aluminum is an advanced heat transfer tube featuring an internal spiral groove, achieved through the innovative "Tornado Twisting Method (TT Method)." This process simultaneously twists and draws the inner groove during the extrusion of the element tube, offering significant advantages over traditional methods that use a fixed grooved plug. The TT Method provides greater flexibility in shaping the inner groove and ensures the pipe is free from oil or debris. This groundbreaking technique earned the prestigious 58th Oyamada Memorial Award from the Japan Society of Light Metals for technological excellence.
Manufacturers turn to aluminium piping as cost-effective alternative
For over 22 years, MA Aluminum has successfully sold torsion pipes for air conditioning systems. With rising copper prices, manufacturers increasingly promote aluminium as a cost-effective alternative, driving a shift towards aluminium piping. This trend has prompted air conditioner manufacturers to accelerate domestic production plans to leverage aluminium's benefits.
MA Aluminum's strong market position and the growing demand for aluminium pipes are boosting its sales growth. In addition to multi-hole pipes, grooved pipes are used for air conditioner piping. These pipes, including torsion pipes, are compatible with equipment designed for copper pipes, making them easy to adopt. Torsion pipes, in particular, are in high demand due to their superior quality.
New production line set to enhance output
MA Aluminum is ramping up its production of torsion tubes and is set to establish an additional production line to cater to increasing demand and attract new customers. The new facility, located near their existing plant in Prefectural, will be equipped with upgraded machinery to enhance productivity.
The company anticipates the new line will produce over 50 tonnes per month, significantly boosting MA Aluminum's market presence.
Specializing in torsion tubes for room air conditioners, MA Aluminum plans to expand its product range to include commercial packaged air conditioners and other applications. Additionally, it is developing new applications beyond air conditioning to diversify its offerings.
In addition to torsion pipes, MA Aluminum manufactures multi-hole pipes to meet the growing demand for aluminium pipes in the air conditioning sector. The company's unwavering commitment to providing optimal product choices tailored to customers' specific needs and preferences across various applications is a testament to our customer-centric approach, ensuring stakeholders feel reassured.
