Global Aluminum Market in 381,000-ton Surplus Jan-Jun

The global aluminum market was in surplus by 381,000 metric tons in the first six months of the year, the World Bureau of Metal Statistics said Wednesday.
This compares with a surplus of 1.798 million tons in the whole of 2011.
Global demand for primary aluminum in the first six months of 2012 rose 4%, compared with the year-earlier period, the WBMS said, without citing a specific figure. Production, meanwhile rose 3.27%, it said.
Global demand in June was 3.840 million tons, while primary aluminum production was 3.836 million tons.
