
Germany’s exports of aluminium semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) to the US stood at 50,000 tonnes in the first nine months of 2020, with a year-on-year decrease of 39.4% or 32,600 tonnes, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey. Germany had exported 82,600 tonnes to the US in January-September 2019.
In September, exports of semi-finished to the US stood 38% lower from the same period a year earlier. Exports stood at 4,900 tonnes in September 2020 as compared to 7,850 tonnes in September 2019. On a month-on-month basis, aluminium semi-finished exports reduced by 8.4% from August’s export volume of 5,350 tonnes.

Germany exported 52,100 tonnes of total aluminium including scrap to the US in the first nine months of 2020, from 84,400 tonnes in the first nine months of 2019. This marked a decrease of 38.27% or 32,300 tonnes year-on-year.
On the import side, imports of aluminium semi-finished products from the US came in at 4,460 tonnes in January-September 2020, representing a decrease of 4.9% year-on-year. Germany had imported 4,690 tonnes from the US in January-September 2019. Imports of total aluminium including scrap from the US registered 11,500 tonnes in nine months period of 2020, down 7.26% from 12,400 tonnes in nine months period of 2019.
