Aluminium consumption in the construction sector has been found growing year over year, resulting in a rising demand for aluminium bar rods and profiles. Aluminium profiles are gaining market share due to their slim structure, durability, and negligible maintenance cost. It is projected that by 2020 global aluminium extrusions market for the building and construction sector will account for almost 74 percent of the overall market share to continue its dominance as the key revenue generator.

{alcircleadd}Among many countries across the world, the use of aluminium bar rods and profiles in Germany has been faring high due to massive infrastructural advancements and refurbishment. Global export-import data reveals that this year Germany is expected to import 522,325 tonnes of aluminium bar rods, 4.4 per cent down from last year. However, the import volume in 2018 was 2.17 per cent higher at 546,427 tonnes compared with 534,775 tonnes in 2017. In 2016, Germany’s aluminium bar rods and profiles import had totalled at 497,969 tonnes, meaning 2017 saw year-on-year growth in Germany’s import volume.

Countries like Austria, Italy, and Turkey are some of the top aluminium bar rods and profiles suppliers to Germany. This year Germany’s import from Austria is expected to decline from 76,980 tonnes in 2018 to 75,162 tonnes and that from Turkey 44,995 tonnes to 44,321 tonnes, in tandem with the plunge in its total aluminium bar rods and profiles import. But from Italy, Germany is estimated to import 63,155 tonnes, up 1.18 per cent from 62,414 tonnes.

The above data also shows that in 2017, Germany’s aluminium bar rods and profiles import from Austria, Italy, and Turkey was at 76,782 tonnes, 59,688 tonnes, and 40, 794 tonnes, up 17 per cent, 8 per cent, and 13 per cent from 65,427 tonnes, 55,352 tonnes, and 36,187 tonnes, respectively. This indicates that in consequence to the year-on-year growth of Germany’s total aluminium bar rods and profiles import in 2017, its import from Austria, Italy and Turkey grew YoY.
