EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill (GARMCO), one of the largest downstream aluminium facilities in the Middle East for rolling, cutting and fabricating aluminium, plans to set up a new recycling and cast house facility worth $ 55 million.

Mahmood Alkooheji, Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat) CEO, made the announcement recently when he visited the facility along with GARMCO’s Chairman, Acting CEO and board members.

A re-melt operation would develop GARMCO’s metal recycling capability resulting in an increase in production by 150% to 200,000 tonnes of aluminium slabs per year.

GARMCO’s Acting CEO Mohammed Essa said that the new facility is on track and hopes to receive the first cast in July so that the plant’s operational capacity would touch highest by November 2017.

Mohammed Essa said, "We see this as a major step forward in the next stage of GARMCO’s development and the progression of the aluminium industry in Bahrain. It will contribute not only to GARMCO but to the development of recycling programmes in the region.”

Alkooheji said, "We are pleased with the progress of this project which will further develop the Kingdom’s downstream aluminium industry. The manufacturing sector accounts for 20% of Bahrain’s GDP and such projects will boost the Kingdom’s exports.”

“We aim to leverage our sector expertise and extensive regional and international networks to help GARMCO meet its growth objectives."
