GAC to let Guinea use its fuel berth and bulk storage infrastructure post the oil terminal explosion

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC), a subsidiary of Emirates Global Aluminium, has offered the Guinea government the use of GAC's petroleum port and bulk storage facilities to assist in dealing with the aftermath of an oil terminal explosion. After the December 18 explosion destroyed gasoline tanks at the major oil terminal managing fuel imports, supply from Guinea, the world's third biggest supplier of alumina raw material bauxite, has been in focus, bolstering aluminium prices in London.

GAC stated there would be no effect on its production or client shipments. The business also anticipates no disruptions to its mining, rail, and export operations. Guinea said on Saturday that the gasoline supply to petrol outlets is expected to improve substantially due to diplomatic initiatives with surrounding nations.

EGA's website reports that GAC's bauxite shipments 2022 increased by 16 per cent to reach a new high of 14 million wet metric tonnes. GAC maintains a mining concession in the northwestern region of Guinea, where it transports bauxite to a GAC port by rail. Emirates Global Aluminium mainly provides GAC's bauxite to clients not affiliated with the company.

The explosion on December 18 resulted in the death of 23 individuals. It caused significant damage to most of the gasoline tanks at the primary oil terminal of the West African country. This terminal manages the nation's fuel imports, leading to shortages.
