France’s aluminium scrap exports volume to Italy likely to rise this year, but revenue to record low

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

As aluminium scrap remains a significant resource for the production of secondary aluminium and subsequently new aluminium products across the world, France’s exports of scrap see a steady market trend year over year. In 2018, France’s aluminium scrap exports are estimated to see growth from 459,678 tonnes in 2017 to 468,484 tonne in 2018, up 2 per cent. In 2016, the estimated aluminium scrap exports volume by France was even higher at 471,203 tonnes, 2.5 per cent more than in 2017 and 1 per cent more than in 2018.

Italy consumes the largest chunk of aluminium scrap export by France. According to the international export-import data, Italy’s aluminium scrap import from France in 2018 is likely to be at 105,502 tonnes against 104,718 tonnes in 2017, up 1 per cent. In 2016, Italy’s estimated aluminium scrap imports from France was at 110,424 tonnes, 5.4 per cent more than in 2017 and 4.6 per cent more than in 2018.

As a consequence to the estimated growth in France’s aluminium scrap exports volume in 2018, the revenue is likely to rise as well from US$369 million in 2017 to US$388 million in 2018, up 5.1 per cent. In 2016, however, the revenue was lesser from both in 2017 and 2018 at US$358 million despite the higher volume of exports by France. It was around 3 per cent less than in 2017 and 8 per cent than in 2018.

France’s aluminium scrap exports revenue from Italy in 2018 is likely to be US$106 million, down 1 per cent from US$ 107 million in 2017 despite the higher amount of exports. On the other hand, the year 2016, when the exports volume by France was the highest in comparison to the other two years, recorded lower revenue. Against 110,424 tonnes of exports to Italy, France earned approximately US$ 105 million, 2 per cent down from 2017 and 1 per cent down from 2016.
