A year ago, Titagarh Wagons and its subsidiary Titagarh Firema SpA won an international tender by bidding the lowest for designing, manufacturing, and supplying 102 aluminium-bodied metro rail coaches.

Secretary of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Durga Shankar Mishra tweeted that a part of the project would be delivered by June 2021.

He said, “In a huge leap towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, Titagarh Firema, a firm based in Kolkata, is the first Indian company, which will manufacture aluminium bodied metro coaches for Pune Metro. These coaches are the lightest in India so far with 15.5 tonnes axle load.”

Mr Mishra also said, “This will enable lower infra cost & higher energy efficiency,” Mishra continued. “These coaches are being manufactured & first 3 will be delivered by June 2021. Commencing operation of Metro will provide Ease of Living to citizens. This is a huge step towards Make In India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
