AL Circle Analysis: Bauxite developments, alumina trade & primary aluminium market dynamics across Australia, Guinea, US & India

The aluminium industry is entering another phase of supply-chain repositioning. Across bauxite, alumina and primary aluminium, companies are investing in new resources, consolidating strategic assets and expanding processing capacity, while governments are increasingly treating domestic supply as a strategic priority. The latest developments from Australia, Guyana, Guinea, Indonesia, the US and India point to a market where resource security, processing location and control over supply chains are becoming as important as production growth. At the same time, new trading mechanisms and changing investment patterns are beginning to influence how aluminium and its raw materials reach the market. Bauxite supply expands, but securing the right tonnes is becoming harder In Western Australia, VBX...

China's 22.87 Mt extrusion market faces a structural shift as 317 GW solar growth counters weak construction demand

The global aluminium extrusion landscape is undergoing a structural transition driven by industrial decarbonisation, global electrification, and the rapid deployment of clean energy infrastructure. Historically anchored by civil engineering and residential real estate, demand for extruded aluminium profiles in China, the world’s dominant manufacturing hub, is decoupling from traditional property sectors. Persistent structural weakness in China’s domestic construction market has slowed the consumption of conventional architectural profiles such as window frames, door sections, and curtain walls. Conversely, advanced industrial applications, specifically solar photovoltaic (PV) racking, battery energy storage systems (BESS), power grid modernisation, and electric vehicles (EVs), have...

TaeguTec unveils aluminium cutting high-speed machining solution

TaeguTec recently unveiled the XEVT 16 and 22 for high-speed machining as part of its Chase-Alu family. Aluminium has its challenges but this alloy’s high strength-to-weight ratio makes it an imperative material in many industrial fields, including automotive, aerospace and mould making. Yet, the main problems in machining aluminium remain the formation of built-up edges due to the adhesion of the materials used, Taegutec says. The cutting tool company has tackled these concerns by minimising the tendency of aluminium to stick to the tool cutting edge, ensuring good chip evacuation, and assuring the tool core strength to withstand breaking. Taegutec recently unveiled the XEVT 16 and 22 for high-speed machining as part of the Chase-Alu family that amalgamates the line’s power of machining...

Bauxite mining in Visakhapatnam mired in controversies

Bauxite mining issue in the dense hilly terrains of Visakhapatnam has witnessed several twists and turns ever since the powers-that-be allowed a Dubai-based company to make an aerial survey of bauxite blocks in the region in 2001. Each time the move had triggered a ruckus those in power have announced to make a re-look at the proposal. However, what intrigues many is the fact that despite so many controversies the agreements signed with Jindal South West Aluminium Limited and Anrak Aluminium Limited during 2005-07 to supply bauxite ore by APMDC have not been cancelled. GO suspension Even the State government recently announced the suspension of GO Ms. No. 97 – which give clearance to APMDC to mine in Jerella area instead its withdrawal – a demand being raised consistently by the...

LME aluminum to fall further to $1,450-1,480 this Week

LME aluminum will fall further to $1,450-1,480 per tonne next week, SMM expects. A firm US dollar amid high expectations for US rate hike this year and concerns over China economic slowdown all bode ill for LME aluminum. Another six Chinese aluminum smelters announced production cuts this past week, but not enough to reverse poor market fundamentals. Positions of SHFE 1602 aluminum, the most active one, were as high as 277,000 as of November 20, many of which are believed to be short bets. SMm expects SHFE 1602 aluminum to drop to 9,650-9,950 yuan per tonne next week. In China’s spot market, despite falling stocks in trading markets, it still takes time for demand to recover. Spot discounts are expected at 80-120 yuan per tonne over SHFE front-month contract.
