As the official water partner of the Wimbledon Championship since 2008, Evian will provide players with reusable bottles or aluminium cans that they can refill with Evian water on the court or at designated areas.
Evian and Wimbledon have come together to create this brand-new initiative to reduce waste. They have introduced a refillable water system for players on the court, which is a fantastic move towards a more sustainable future.
This means they can stay hydrated while helping protect the environment. The on-court dispenser will be available on courts two to 18, while prefilled reusable bottles will be available on Centre Court and No.1 Court.
In addition, off-court spectators will still be able to purchase Evian's 75cl bottles made of 100% recycled plastic and 33cl recyclable aluminium cans. It's inspiring to see such a big event promoting sustainable practices.
The vice president for marketing at parent company Danone UK and Ireland, Sarah Dossett, declared: "The development of a refill solution to deliver our Evian water to players demonstrates Evian's continued commitment to innovating. Together with Wimbledon, we are continuing our journey towards our circularity ambitions… It is fantastic to be able to continue to showcase healthy hydration at such an iconic sporting event."
The head of account management at waste charity WRAP, Jen Emerton, also praised this sustainability drive, saying: "Showcasing a reuse and refill model to reduce single-use plastics on one of the world's most viewed sporting arenas is a great way to make refill the default option and an active part of our everyday habits".
"Providing reusable bottles and refill facilities and using bottles in future tournaments will significantly cut the number used by players. This is a great step forward by a UK Plastics Pact member, and we hope to see this idea expanded across the entire tournament at future Wimbledon," Emerton assessed.
Another exciting development is Barclays' clubhouse implementing CLUBZERØ's reusable cups system, which is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 50% compared to disposable cups. Together, these initiatives are helping to create a better and more sustainable future for us all.
