The EU-imposed definitive anti-dumping and countervailing duties ranging from 15.4 per cent to 28.5 per cent on products under CN code ex 7607 11 19 are expected to run until December 9, 2026.

The investigation then led to a provisional duty in June 2021, before the final tariffs became effective, with the combined duty range between 16.1 per cent and 46.7 per cent.

Aluminium converter foil is an important product in the EU market, with an estimated value of about EUR 630 million. It is used across sectors like packaging and also in applications linked to electric vehicle batteries. The measures were put in place to level the playing field, stopping imported products from enjoying price advantages that could harm EU manufacturers.

Under current rules, European producers may request a sunset review within three months before the expiry date if they believe dumping or subsidisation is likely to continue. In such cases, they must provide evidence that removing the duties could result in renewed injury to the EU industry.
If no such request is made, or if the case is not strong enough, the measures will simply come to an end. In that case, imports of aluminium converter foil from China would no longer face these duties after December 2026.
