Egypt is one of the major markets in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa), where aluminium industry in spite of being low-cost due to availability of cheap fuel has been challenged by three interlocking crises since years- pure energy being exported to the international market, minimal existence of downstream applications, and almost zero economic value-addition. However, with the global economy changing the MENA countries too are stepping up their downstream manufacturing pursuits. {newsStudioGallery} Consumer packaging sector which earlier depended largely on plastics is slowly shifting to more sustainable materials such as aluminium, and aluminium foils for which there was hardly any traction in the domestic market is slowly picking up depending mostly on imports. Aluminium composite sheet is a very popular choice of material for a variety of applications, including creative projects where it can accommodate image and text printing. Image is designed in such an impressive way that gives its final piece a different look altogether. It is finished onto a butler finish Brushed Aluminium Surface. The aluminium look of the surface is very special and impressive. Brushed aluminium surfaces with butler finish look are cut onto sizes according to its requirement. They are extremely rigid yet lightweight and are suitable for printing on both sides of the sheet though glossy on one side and matte on the other. This artwork is printed onto a 3mm thick aluminium panel; there are then two thin aluminium sheets that sandwich a black inner core. The aluminium...

Ford is set to use more aluminium than ever for its future 2020 Ford Branco. The automaker already uses aluminium for the F-150's body which comes from various suppliers. Though it’s not certain that Bronco will receive everything as the Ranger but the most of Rangers’ gasoline engines are a sure thing. Branco will keep its square look, which made it an icon among its peers, but as time goes it is expected that it will get some sort of modern twist. Raj Nair, Ford's product development chief has already seen huge potential after using aluminium in F-150’S body. "The fact that we're collaborating on technology at this scale shows a pretty big commitment on both our parts," said Nair. Globally, aluminium output has increased manifold. Countries like China and those in the Middle East are...

Nicholas Crane, the author of a biography on the famous 16th-century Flemish cartographer Gerard Mercator, once wrote: "maps codify the miracle of existence." In the new era, some of the most creative new maps being produced use aluminium as a key component in making miniature world. Michal Porycki, an artist in Olsztyn, a north-eastern city along the Lyna River, Poland, utilizes advanced technology to design relief maps in wood and aluminium, structure them in a 3D printing process that layers the lakes into a visual model based on a fairly niche discipline: bathymetry, the science and study of underwater topography. Once the process is complete, Porycki and his father finish the aluminium lake map in wood, to surround the lake with an equally precise image of the land and place it...

The U.S. is one of the biggest markets of global aluminium foils. According to the Aluminum Association, the aluminium foil market in the North American country is currently valued at $5 billion, and about 36% of the total demand is met through imports, up from only 16% in 2007. As an interesting observation, net U.S. exports of aluminium sheets, plates, and foil displayed a generally upward trend from 2007 to 2013. However, over the last two years, this growth has slowed down significantly. In fact, exports of rolled aluminium products including aluminium foil have fallen by almost three times larger in value, resulting in a huge trade surplus of $511 million in 2015. {newsStudioGallery} Aluminium rolled products and foil imports from China to the U.S. have risen almost 10-fold, to 265...

One of the most desirable bike brands Ducati has recently unveiled The Ducati Multistrada 950- the brand new machine for 2017 at the EICMA 2016 show in Milan. A smaller version of the Multistrada 1200, the Multistrada 950 is designed to be more accessible in both its price range and its lighter weight, thanks to its aluminium intensive built, and riding size, with a lower seat that reaches to a standard 840 mm. The slimmed-down bike has a frame made from billet aluminium, along with other features that include that two-sided, cast aluminium swingarm, and cast aluminium wheels, respectively 19-inch and 17-inch. The Ducati Design Center aimed to strike the balance between the compact bike they intended – and a visibly light overall weight that would add to the appeal – while keeping it...

The popularity of Japanese paper-folding art origami is going beyond paper to wrap aluminium in its wings creating three-dimensional novel objects for interior designing. The superior formability of aluminium is inspiring new-age designers to craft 3D structures unseen before from 2D metal sheets. Make Architects of the United Kingdom recently created aluminium origami kiosks for food vendors and holiday artisans who usually look for temporary, mobile structures in a festive setting to do business. Prior to this, these small-scale vendors would use unappealing, noisy trucks or boxy shelters for carrying out their businesses on a temporary basis; but the Make team came up with a concept that not only added beauty to the outlets, event, and market but also helped increase visitors' footfall...

Global automotive manufacturer Volvo has joined the European Union research project which aims at replacing copper and aluminium cables in heavy commercial vehicles with wireless sensors. The result of the project is expected to be an overwhelming reduction in the volume of metal and plastic used for cabling. While this can prove to be a huge setback for Volvo's copper suppliers, the prospects of sensor performance and lightweighting capabilities can open up new opportunities for the automaker as well as for automotive aluminium body solutions suppliers. Reduction in cabling and vehicle weight has been a major area of focus for global automakers for more than a decade now. Volvo, too, has been exploring the possibilities of using lightweight materials for making their trucks lighter while...

Creativity came naturally to Gerald Clarke Jr., an artist who originally belonged to the Cahuilla Band of Indians and grew up on a cattle ranch on the Cahuilla reservation near Anza in Riverside County. “When you grow up dirt poor and you got nothing, you make do with a lot of stuff,” Clarke said. “We used to build our own bike ramps and forts. I see that as my early excursions into sculpture.” Clarke's choice of art was also shaped by his education. The Californian artist, who has a bachelor's degree from the University of Central Arkansas and a master of fine arts degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, is currently an assistant professor of ethnic studies at University of California, Riverside. He also served in the visual arts department of the Idyllwild Arts Academy....

People and consumers were apprehensive when Ford announced that they would be making Ford F-150 with an all-aluminium body. They were apprehensive about the performance of aluminium in comparison to tough steel. Ford proved everyone wrong with exceptional sales performance and after sales performance. Since the use of an aluminium bed did not affect the functionality of the Ford F-150, Ford is ready to take the next step and planning to have more upcoming models fitted with aluminium bodies. It is already been in the news that the upcoming 2018 Ford Expedition might also be coming in with the same aluminium upgrade. The switch to aluminium would not only reduce the overall weight of the vehicle but also improve its performance and fuel economy. Cost is one factor which may be the flipside...
