Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) is thrilled to announce the resounding success of the 27th edition of its annual 'Can Collection Day' held on February 24, 2024. The initiative titled "With a #CANDO Attitude the Future is in our Hands" collected around 7,002 kgs of aluminium cans and a total of 415,028 kgs since its inception.
Raising awareness about recycling
This national environmental initiative serves to raise awareness about the critical role of recycling in safeguarding the planet. Since its inception in 1997, the Can Collection Campaign has stood as a beacon within EEG's mission to champion sustainability, foster environmental stewardship, and cultivate community involvement. This year's flagship event, the Can Collection Day, witnessed an extraordinary turnout from every segment of UAE society, demonstrating a unified dedication to safeguarding our precious planet for future generations.
“Embracing initiatives such as the Can Collection Campaign is our resounding declaration to the world: we are champions of sustainability, architects of change, and guardians of our planet's future," said Mrs Habiba Al Mar’ashi – Co-Founder and Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group.
The remarkable figures underscore the commitment and passion shown by individuals, families, schools, businesses, and organisations, particularly the hospitality sector, in contributing to a cleaner, greener environment. Beyond the substantial collection of aluminium cans, the environmental significance of this initiative cannot be emphasised enough.
"In a nation steadfastly dedicated to the cause, where the Year of Sustainability extends its unwavering legacy, our actions today resonate louder than ever. Let us unite, shoulder to shoulder, in the relentless pursuit of a greener, cleaner tomorrow, for it is our collective responsibility to safeguard this precious Earth for generations yet to come,” added Habiba Al Mar'ashi.
Outcome of the initiative
By recycling aluminium cans, EEG and all participants have offset an impressive 6,230 tonnes of CO2 emissions since the program's inception. This substantial effort contributes to the ongoing battle against climate change and environmental degradation.
