The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has been recognised for its impressive waste management and recycling efforts. The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) awarded SEWA second place in the Waste Management and Recycling Award for Printer Ink Cartridges in the Enterprise category at the UAE level.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Executive Council Member of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah and Chairman of the Civil Aviation Department, and was held at Dubai Knowledge Park.
This award honours the fact that SEWA has collected, sorted and recycled around 200 ink cartridges. SEWA's waste management and recycling campaigns covered paper, plastic, aluminium cans, ink, mobile phones, and glass bottles. These amazing results were achieved through the diligent work of SEWA and its partners throughout the year. It is quite eminent that circular economy is the goal behind this wholehearted initiative of diverting waste products from landfills.
The products mentioned above are thrown into landfill every year without even scrutinising recycling possibilities. Among them, aluminium items can be infinitely recycled, giving rise to an endless material supply. Through this sustainable drive, SEWA is keen on developing a sustainable habit to be followed by the community, which will benefit them in the long run.
The award is a testament to SEWA's unwavering commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. Engineer Fatima Ali Asghar, Director of Information Technology and Communications at SEWA, further asserted the authority's commitment to launching several drives that raise awareness of the importance of environmental balance and energy conservation.
SEWA's Head of the Operations and Technical Support Department, Ahmed Hussein Al Hammadi, elaborated on the organisation's waste management initiatives. Forty-one entities voluntarily joined SEWA's waste management campaigns, participating in annual efforts to achieve significant results in various award categories.
