Robinsons is testing a new way of pressure packing their squash by using Ecopacks instead of plastic bottles. These innovative cartons are made from 89% plant-based material and contain a thin aluminium layering to keep the liquid inside safe.

The Robinsons Ecopack is primarily made of paperboard sourced from responsibly managed forests, with a cap forged out of plastic derived from renewable raw materials. A small amount of aluminium and non-renewable plastic is necessary to ensure that the carton is watertight and the product stays fresh.
Circulated by June, the goal of Robinsons' Ecopack is to reduce waste by using 85% less plastic per serving than a one-litre bottle of Robinsons Double Concentrate. The higher concentration of squash in the carton means that it's equivalent to three single concentrate bottles and produces significantly less packaging per serve. The carton format also takes up less space, making it easy to transport and store at home.
Before this, we've seen packaging companies like Tetra Pak and SIG venture into using completely recyclable materials for their packaging solutions, curtailing the amount of carbon dioxide released in the air.
The Innovation lead for Robinsons, Fiona Graham, commented: "As a brand, Robinsons is continuously innovating and is committed to improving the environmental impact we have. Squash is already a sustainable product due to its concentrated format. Making Robinsons available in this new format allows consumers to feel confident in the knowledge that the pack they've chosen has more serves, but used less packaging per serve, and can be recycled once finished."
"All packaging types have their own unique benefits and challenges, and we know there is currently no one' silver bullet.' That said, we believe that continuing to innovate with products such as Robinsons Ecopack will bring us one step closer to a solution and provide consumers with a range of options," Graham concluded.
The Robinsons Ecopack is fully recyclable at the kerbside in most UK regions or at recycling banks across the country. The Ecopack is available in three flavours - Orange, Apple & Blackcurrant, and Summer Fruits - at selected Tesco stores across the UK.
