Dulsco starts construction at Dubai recycling facility putting Dubai 2021 Plan on the fast-track

EDITED BY : DIPANWITA GUPTA 2MINS READ

The UAE based environmental waste management company Dulsco-the Dubai recently broke ground at its new 500,000 square-foot recycling facility Dubai Industrial Park (DIP). The ceremony was attended by the top executives from both Dulsco and DIP. The recycling plant, being built at a total cost of US$6.8 million, will recycle aluminium products as well as other metal components. The project is scheduled for late-2018 or early-2019 commissioning.

The construction of the recycling plant is going to be held in two phases, reported company sources. The first phase hosting a materials recovery plant and a fleet maintenance workshop will cover a 200,000 square-foot area. The second phase will see commissioning of a fully automated materials sorting line with an hourly capacity of five tonnes recyclables.

Saud Abu Al-Shawareb, COO of DIP who graced the ground-breaking ceremony of Dulsco (aluminium) recycling plant said that the project will support Dubai Plan 2021 that envisions sustainable and innovative resource management and improvement of Dubai city life.

This is not the only recycling project that is coming up in UAE. The Gulf country is literally on the fast-track of sustainable development. Last week, Envirol revealed its plans to expand and upgrade its recycling facilities in Dubai. The expansion is expected to double the waste Envirol recycles from current 30 per cent to 60 per cent by 2020 and to 75 per cent by 2021.

A recent Frost & Sullivan report projected that the total waste generated by the Gulf Cooperation Council region will surge from 94 million tonnes in 2015 to 120 million tonnes by 2020. The report suggested that the regional government should take proactive steps in managing this huge waste. The recent developments show that the government is serious about matter and is taking decisive steps towards increasing waste management activities.
