Aluminum processors in Henan lose advantage over rising production cost

Aluminum processors in Henan lose advantage over rising production cost

Aluminum processors in China reported an increase in orders in March. However, orders at processors in Henan are poor this year, which is different from the past. Production costs at aluminum processing enterprises in Henan are higher compared with east and south China. First, equipment at processors in Henan came into use later than that in east and south China, so equipment depreciation expense at Henan-based enterprises is higher. Second, although prices of electricity for industrial use as well as prices of natural gas and coal are higher in east and south China than in Henan, enterprises in Henan consume more energy, so overall production costs are higher in Henan. Third, processors in east and south China are able to produce high-precision aluminum semis with advanced equipment,...

Incompetent demand from China makes Japan's Sumitomo see aluminum surplus at highest level

Sumitomo Corp., Japan’s fourth- largest trading house, raised its forecast for a global aluminum surplus to the highest level in two years as demand from China, the biggest consumer, won’t be enough to absorb new capacity. Supply will outpace demand for a seventh year by 866,000 metric tons this year from 760,000 tons in 2012, said Shingi Yamagiwa, manager of light metals trading at Sumitomo, which has stakes in smelters in Australia, Brazil, Malaysia and Indonesia. Aluminum, used in cars, packaging and houses, has declined 12 percent in the past year, driving top producers Alcoa Inc. (AA), Rio Tinto Group and United Co. Rusal to cut output. Inventories in the main trading regions of China, also the largest producer, probably climbed to a record, according to data provider SMM Information...

Vehicle capability, mobility, protection and durability are increased, and a significant fuel efficiency increase over the current fleet is realized. During the segment, found at www.jaylenosgarage.com, Leno examined the vehicle's design, noting the extensive aluminum use, and conducted a test drive on the streets of Los Angeles. "The U.S. military has a long history of using aluminum to design vehicles that protect and hold up in the most extreme environments," said Randall Scheps, chairman of The Aluminum...

Catwalk, the successor to the Lumia 920 to use aluminium to cut weight

Mobile World Congress yielded up everything from Gigatowers to 4K mobile video – and in one room tucked away from the show floor, Nokia revealed some tantalising details on the Catwalk, the successor to the Lumia 920. Now Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin has spilled the beans on the closed-door briefing. The Catwalk will feature a brand new design, bringing the strong and lightweight qualities of aluminium into the build of a slimmer version of the 920. And yes, it’ll be running Windows Phone 8. It will also be waterproof thanks to a special nano coating from P2i, which is a partnership that the company’s allegedly worked out at Mobile World Congress last week. According to Eldar Murtazin, only a few attendees at Mobile World Congress last week were actually able to see the new smartphone,...

Cafca wants further scrapping of duty on aluminium cable in Zimbabwe

Cafca says the group is currently lobbying through various industry groups which they subscribe to, for the further scrapping of duty on aluminium cable. In the last national budget, Finance minister Tendai Biti reduced duty on the cable to 5% from 10%. Cafca MD Rob Webster told shareholders at an annual general meeting last week the group would continue lobbying the ministry so that the duty be totally scrapped in order to give local manufacturers a competitive advantage. Webster said currently the company imports the cable from Dubai. Imports were still a threat particularly on the big orders as there were “hungry suppliers from South Africa” willing to supply at a discount, he said. “To try and counter this we are working closely with the big users of cables. With the mines, we are...

FICCI urges reduction of excise duty on aluminum products in Budget 2013

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has pitched for reduction in excise duty on aluminium products from existing 12 per cent to 8 per cent in Budget 2013 to encourage the use of aluminum goods. "The price of aluminum metal in India is the highest in the world, primarily due to the high customs and central excise duties. A steady decline in consumption of aluminum has been witnessed due to high price of aluminum commodities across the country during past 5-6 years, said FICCI. FICCI also noted that unless aluminium is made available at an affordable price to people, other substitutes such as plastic, wood etc. would continue to threaten the environment. The industry body has also recommended exemption of excise duty on aluminum irrigation pipes and tubes with an...

FICCI urges increase in basic customs duty on aluminium goods to 10% in Budget 2013

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is rooting for an increase in the basic customs duty (BCD) on aluminium products from existing 5 per cent to 10 per cent in Budget 2013. FICCI argues that the steep surge in imports of aluminium products in India is having an adverse impact on the domestic industry. Industry representatives have expressed grave concerns as they reel under the burden of increasing cost pressures. This has been further exacerbated by plummeting realisations. Adding to the industry's woes, imports are rising at a time when the domestic industry has been putting up huge investment projects across the country. The industry body feels that there is an urgent need to strike a balance between domestic industry trade and imports.
