Hydro Q3 results for rolled product has been slow compared to last quarter. Seasonally lower sales volumes and changes in the product mix have pulled down the underlying EBIT in Q3 in comparison to Q2 2016. It was partly offset by positive results from the Neuss smelter driven by an increase in the all-in metal price. On a YOY comparison also, the underlying EBIT declined from the third quarter of 2015, mostly due to lower realized margins, increased cost and negative currency development. Underlying EBIT for the first three quarters of 2016 was lower than in the same period of 2015 due to lower all-in metal price affecting the Neuss smelter result during the period. Hydro completed divestment for its slim rolling mills by December 17, 2015. After that the company saw higher sales volumes...

First time in the UAE industrial history one industrial site is linked to separate industrial sites through a dedicated channel. Emirates Global Aluminium’s (EGA) Al Taweelah smelter is all set to start delivering molten aluminium to its customers in Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad) via a dedicated hot metal channel. This is a part of EGA’s project that was initiated as a means of cutting cost and in order to develop a competitive aluminium value added segment in UAE. The first customer to avail this hot metal supply service from EGA is Ducab Aluminium Company which will produce aluminium electrical cables from this aluminium. One of the most economic methods of sourcing aluminium is to receive it as molten metal as it eliminates the need for re-melting it before application. So,...

Ohio’s two United States senators issued a joint press release on Friday urging the United States Trade Representative to bring a World Trade Organization case against the People’s Republic of China over its aluminium overcapacity. The senators say that 15,000 American workers have lost their jobs in the industry over the last decade. “China has unfairly subsidized its aluminium industry – it’s not competing, it’s cheating,” said Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown. “Enforcing our trade laws will ensure that U.S. aluminium manufacturers, the best in the world, have the opportunity to compete on a level playing field. The Administration needs to stand up for American businesses and put an end to the massive layoffs that have devastated workers and their communities.” “I firmly believe that...

Global aluminium industry has been undergoing a paradigm shift over the last ten years. From primary metal production, the focus has shifted to downstream manufacturing. In India too, the change has happened, though at a bit slower pace. All major primary aluminium producers including National Aluminium Company (Nalco), Aditya Birla Group owned Hindalco have been extruding aluminium products in small volumes, but the first big change took place when Hindalco stepped beyond the geographical borders and bagged leading manufacturer of rolled aluminium products and the world’s largest recycler of aluminium Novelis in a $6 billion all-cash deal in 2007. Since then, all primary manufacturers have stepped up their activities in their downstream aluminium divisions. Two factors have worked in...

Chinese aluminium giants are making fast forays into global aerospace and automotive markets. Industry experts believe their entry would not only heat up competition but also spark fresh buying spree for metal companies based in the US and Europe. The chief executive of Novelis Inc, Steve Fisher said last week, he expected competition from the Chinese producers to intensify over the next five to 10 years in the high-value-added aerospace and engineering segments- which so far have been dominated by the European and US manufacturers. "Certainly (Chinese aluminium makers) will be able to produce high...

Alpha Laboratories' AlumAseal®- the brand synonymous with sealing radiator and heater core leaks for over 75 years now, has added new aluminium foil plate seals to its product mix.
