According to a recent report, the Zimbabwe Electricity Distribution Company (ZETDC) has started removing copper cables and replacing them with aluminium conductors along the Bulawayo-Plumtree grid to curb vandalism. Constant occurrence of copper cable theft mainly on a stretch between Bulawayo and Figtree has moved the ZETDC to decide on removing cables and substituting them with aluminium conductors. China’s exports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products dipped 6.17% year-on-year in July, according to China customs data released on August 8. China exported a total of 487,000 tonnes of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products last month. Aluminium exports declined by 3.8 per cent month-on-month, customs data showed. China had exported 506,000 tonnes in June, down 30,000 tonnes from May. Total exports stood 7.2% higher in the first seven months of 2019. According to a recent report, National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has proposed to set up a new division where it will develop technology for making equipment specific to the domestic aluminium sector. As per the report, the Nalco board has already cleared the proposal and sought approval of the mines ministry.
