Ford has produced more than 5,000 large aluminium unicastings at its Shelbyville Technical Center as it advances manufacturing preparations for the Fathom midsize electric truck, scheduled to launch in 2027. The castings are being used for process testing and prototype assembly at the company's Louisville Assembly Plant. The United States aluminium crude metals and alloys imports from Canada extended decline in September 2020 by 54,000 tonnes or 26.34 per cent month-on-month to 151,000 tonnes, found the US Geological Survey data. In August, the United States imports from Canada stood at 205,000 tonnes, almost flat compared with 206,000 tonnes in July 2020. This brings the United States total aluminium crude metals and alloys imports from Canada in the third quarter of 2020 to 562,000 tonnes, down by 16.62 per cent Q-o-Q from 674,000 tonnes. Aluminium plate, sheet and strip consumption in China’s automotive sector looks optimistic in 2021. Hindalco Industries Limited intends to establish a 34,000-tonne aluminium extrusion plant in Silvassa with an investment of INR 730-crore. The new facility will meet the demand for extruded aluminium products in the western and southern regions. Commercial production at the facility is expected to begin in 24 months.
