
The downstream segment of the global aluminium industry remained highlighted in the week due to some of the eventful happenings. The American industrial aluminium company, Novelis, a subsidiary of Indian aluminium and copper manufacturing company Hindalco Industries achieves GreenCircle Certification for 99% recycled aluminium content in three of its alloys. The shipbuilder based in Panama City, Florida, Eastern Shipbuilding Group, which has delivered over 350 vessels to commercial clients, inaugurated a new aluminium fabrication facility.

According to a report on January 17, 2022, Hydro will establish a new photovoltaic power system at its aluminium extrusion plant in Trzcianka, Poland. The power system will expectedly come into operation in Q3, 2022, to generate 7.5GWh/year of power to supply electricity to the new 8-inch extrusion press, currently under construction.
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has certified Gränges’ casting and rolling facility in Shanghai, China, against its Chain of Custody Standard Certification. This makes the world-renowned aluminium technology company achieve the second ASI certification.

The formal opening of Eastern Shipbuilding Group's new aluminium production plant is being celebrated. The structure was created expressly to aid in the construction of the USCG's offshore patrol cutters. Triumph Gulf Coast provided a five-million-dollar grant to help pay for the project. President of Eastern Shipbuilding Group Joey Disernia stated that this is a significant milestone for the firm.

The Lizhong Sitong Light Alloys Group Co., Ltd. factory in Baoding City, Hebei Province, China, has received Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard accreditation for the design and manufacturing of alloys, metal additives, and fluxes. The company makes aluminium alloy sheets, strips, foil, tube, bar/billet, profile, wire, and castings for the transportation, packaging, electronic, and aerospace industries, among others.

On Tuesday, January 18, Novelis Inc., the world leader in aluminium rolling and recycling, announced that the 99% recycled aluminium content in three of its alloys produced for the building and construction industry has independently been approved by GreenCircle. The certification includes Novelis’ 3105, 3004, and 3025 alloys, produced at its Davenport, Iowa; Richmond, Virginia; and Uhrichsville, Ohio plants. These alloys are used for producing flat-rolled aluminium sheets containing 77% to 99% recycled content, destined for commercial transportation and building & construction sectors.
Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has announced that it successfully certified ProfilGruppen Extrusions AB against the Performance Standard Certification for the development and manufacture of customised aluminium extrusions and components at Aseda, Sweden plant. The products developed at the plant are destined for downstream sectors in industries like transport, electronics, and construction.
Hindalco Industries Limited increased its aluminium products and aluminium ingot prices on Saturday, January 15, following a cut in the preceding day. The company grew its aluminium billets price by INR 2,000 per tonne or 0.75 per cent to INR 267,850 per tonne. On January 14, the price stood at INR 265,850 per tonne after being cut by INR 3,500 per tonne.
Aluminum Association CEO Charles Johnson pointed out that investment in the US aluminium industry has started rising backed on the improvement in the economy in 2021. He added domestic producers announced an investment of $800 million or more in Greenfield and expansion projects in just the last six months.

Hindalco Industries Limited has continued to increase its aluminium ingot and aluminium products prices for the third time in a row, with effect from Thursday, January 20. Hindalco has raised its aluminium wire rod price by INR 3,000 per tonne from INR 268,100 per tonne on January 18 to INR 271,100 per tonne on January 20.
