The Netherlands has been following an upward pattern for aluminium import. In the year 2015, imports of aluminium stood at about 1.7 million tons. The volume increased to 2.3 million tons in 2016. For the first ten months of 2017, the aluminium import is estimated to stand at about 1.8 million tons. The constant rise in import is driven by growing domestic aluminium consumption to manufacture value added aluminium products in the country.

The cost from import was US$ 2.9 billion and US$ 3.4 billion respectively for the years 2015 and 2016. For the first ten months of 2017, the cost of import of aluminium by the Netherlands is estimated to be about US$ 3.1 billion tons.
Constellium, a global sector leader in manufacturing innovative and high value-added aluminium products like rolled products, extrusions and automotive structures, is headquartered in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). It is one of the companies that consume a large amount of aluminium in the Netherlands.
The imports are mainly driven by European countries like Norway and Iceland and by Russia. China notably contributes a very small amount of the total aluminium import by the Netherlands.
