Constellium Extrusions Decin s.r.o., based in the Czech Republic, is expanding its aluminium casthouse capacity with the order of a new homogenizing furnace and a helical ultrasonic testing station and billet saw for aluminium extrusion billets. Hertwich Engineering, a company of SMS group, will supply the new furnace with a capacity of nine tons per hour. The new homogenizing line will start operation in the first half of 2019.
Constellium Decin plant is a leading aluminium extrusions manufacturer in Europe and part of the multinational Constellium group. The plant produces customized aluminium extrusions in soft and hard alloys for automotive and industrial applications. The plant is the largest integrated hard alloy facility in Europe, and the fourth-largest supplier of tubes, bars and profiles from aluminium and its alloys.
“The increasing demand, especially from the automotive industry, has prompted Constellium to expand the Dĕčín plant in several investment stages,” according to SMS Group.
“The new homogenizing capacities are part of the current programme, which is aimed at expanding extrusion capacity. For this purpose, a further extrusion plant including a casthouse is planned, for which Hertwich will supply the entire heat treatment in the form of a continuous homogenizing furnace.”
The new furnace has a capacity of nine tons of aluminium billets per hour in the diameter range between 250 and 385 millimeters with billet lengths of 4 to 7.5 meters. As a special feature, the cooling station comes with an intensive noise insulation that drastically reduces the noise level.”
SMS group is a group of companies internationally active in plant construction and mechanical engineering for the steel and nonferrous metals industry.
