Chongqing Guochuang Light Alloy Research Institute carried out the first trial run of its aluminium ingot casting project. The multifunctional melting and casting platform is outfitted with 16t melting and casting units, including a tilting side well-melting furnace, a hydraulic tilting static and dynamic furnace, a hydraulic casting machine, a three-rotor degasser, and a two-stage plate filter.
The trial run was attended by Huang UBS, deputy general manager of Chinalco Material Institute and chief engineer of Chinalco Group, Li Hutian, chief engineer of Chinalco Group, Yang Rongdong, director of the Institute of Melting and Green Casting, Fan Lin and Liu Li, pilot base heads, melting and casting technology masters from Southwest Aluminium Technology Centre and Melting and Casting Plant, researchers from Chongqing Guochuang Institute.
The multifunctional melting and casting platform conducts scientific research in response to the "major melting and casting projects" of the Group. The "major melting and casting projects" will be supported by 15 projects, including "Study on the Formation and Control Technology of Large-sized Aluminium Alloy Ingots with High Alloying" and "Structural Design of DC Casting Mould Based on CFD and Thermo-mechanical Numerical Simulation," which will support the high-quality development of each sub-project.
It performs the following eight functions: research on fundamental common problems, development of cutting-edge materials, research and development of unique casting technology, forward development of tooling and tools, development of green smelting technology, digitalisation and intelligence, pilot production of scientific research products, and technological achievement transformation. The platform's quality assurance capacity is that the hydrogen content is less than or equal to 0.08 ml/100 gal, the off-line slag content is less than or equal to 0.02mm2/kg, and the ingot looseness level is not larger than grade 1.
The smooth operation of a multifunctional melting and casting platform can solve common melting and casting problems in processing enterprises, as well as the problems of low scientific research efficiency of new materials, new processes, and new equipment (tooling tools) and crowding out production time, effectively releasing processing enterprises' production capacity and achieving a win-win situation in research and development and production.
The Chongqing Guochuang Institute Pilot Base will depend on the expertise of the Chinalco High-end Manufacturing Research Institute team to offer research and development as well as pilot platforms for polymetallic technology to research institutes, universities, and enterprises. Additionally, it will serve as an effective medium for transforming scientific and technological achievements. The base will also undertake sample analysis and testing, pilot testing, platform and equipment leasing, process enhancement and optimisation, and new product research and development. It aims to provide comprehensive services ranging from laboratory research and development to pilot testing.
