
The average alumina spot price has continued to surge in China, fuelled by domestic production cut due to refineries shut down and raw materials supply disruption due to ongoing political unrest in Guinea. According to the Shanghai Metals Market, alumina price has jumped by RMB 154 per tonne to stand at RMB 3,607 per tonne on Thursday, September 16.

In Shandong, the average alumina price has soared by RMB 175 per tonne to come in at RMB 3,625 per tonne, followed by a hike of RMB 150 per tonne in Guizhou and Guangxi to RMB 3,400 per tonne. In Henan and Shanxi, alumina price has climbed by RMB 145 per tonne to close at RMB 3,645 per tonne.
Among other input costs, bauxite (4.5≤Al/Si<5.5) price in Shanxi has grown by RMB 15 per tonne to settle at RMB 475 per tonne, while the price in Henan has inched up by RMB 5 per tonne to close at RMB 515 per tonne. The average prices are likely to range between RMB 450-500 per tonne and RMB 500-530 per tonne, respectively.
A00 aluminium ingot price has also recorded an increase, following two consecutive downfalls on September 14-15. According to SMM data, China’s primary aluminium ingot price has soared by RMB 500 per tonne to come in at RMB 22,740 per tonne. The average prices are expected to range between RMB 22,720-22,760 per tonne, with spot contract likely to be traded at a premium price of RMB 30-10 per tonne.

In Foshan and Hangzhou, A00 aluminium ingot price has hiked by RMB 520 per tonne and RMB 515 per tonne to come in at RMB 22,790 per tonne and RMB 22,765 per tonne, respectively, while the price in Wuxi has surged by RMB 505 per tonne to close at RMB 22,740 per tonne. In Gongyi and Chongqing, primary aluminium ingot price has increased by RMB 490 per tonne and RMB 485 per tonne to RMB 22,590 per tonne and RMB 22,680 per tonne.
Aluminium alloy (A356) price has also skyrocketed by RMB 600 per tonne to stand at RMB 24,350 per tonne, with average prices likely to range between RMB 24,300 per tonne and RMB 24,400 per tonne.
Aluminium alloys (ADC12) price and aluminium alloy (A380) price have climbed by RMB 250 per tonne to peg at RMB 23,350 per tonne and RMB 24,550 per tonne, respectively.
