Chile’s aluminium scrap export during 2019-21 unveils mercurial movement; a further marginal drop is predicted for 2022

Aluminium is a highly durable metal that can be recycled again and again without losing its inherent value. Compared to making the same amount of aluminium from scratch, recycling aluminium saves 95% of the energy. Metal recycling isn't always as straightforward as it should be. Among the metals recyclable, steel is the most challenging to recycle, while aluminium is the easiest. Even though aluminium recycling is easy, it isn't the most recycled metal.

Chile is one of the most industrialized economies in Latin America, with key industries including mining, manufacturing, and agriculture. The nation exported aluminium scrap in the volume of 62,273 tonnes during 2019-21, which raised earnings of around $77.69 million from the export.

In 2019, Chile exported 17,692 tonnes of aluminium scrap, accounted earnings of $19.21 million, whereas, in 2020, the export unveiled a super growth of 42.78%, as the export volume ascended to 25,261 tonnes, counting earnings of $26.54 million.

Chile registered an aluminium scrap export of 19,320 tonnes in 2021, which signified a downfall of 23.51%, while the earnings excelled to $31.94 million.

The scrap export in 2022 is evaluated with a further marginal drop by 0.57%, as the export volume is predicted to remain around 19,208 tonnes and earnings to scale up at $33.87 million.

The major trading destinations for Chile’s export of aluminium scrap are Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Colombia, Greece, Japan, Netherlands, South Korea, Thailand, USA, etc.
