Chhattisgarh CM announces significant bauxite find in Jashpur
New bauxite deposits have been unearthed in Jashpur district of Chhatisgarh in India, Chief Minister Raman Singh informed the State Assembly in a written communication.

He also informed that the State geological team has not confirmed the presence of any limestone deposit in the region.

Chhattisgarh accounts for 5 per cent of India’s estimated bauxite reserves of 593 million metric tonnes. The state is home to high quality metallurgical grade bauxite, a characteristic of the eastern coast. Whether the deposits discovered match up to the standard of the other reserves found here remains yet to be confirmed by the team of experts.

Chhattisgarh ranks fourth in terms of bauxite reserves found after Odisha (~70 per cent), Andhra Pradesh (18 per cent), and Gujarat (7 per cent). Maharashtra too contributes 5 per cent to the total bauxite reserves of the country.
