Senior US officials to mark Century Aluminum's Mt. Holly expansion, boosting primary aluminium output by 10%

Update on the July 27 ribbon-cutting ceremony: Century Aluminum CEO Jesse Gary will be joined by US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Senior Counselor to President Trump Dr Peter Navarro and South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson as the company celebrates the expansion of its Mt Holly aluminium smelter. The inauguration time has been updated to July 27, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, US Senator Tim Scott and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster will join Century Aluminum President and CEO Jesse Gary on July 27 to mark the expansion of the company's Mt Holly aluminium smelter in South Carolina, highlighting the project's significance for the US aluminium industry.

The expansion is expected to increase total US primary aluminium production by approximately 10 per cent while expanding the Mt Holly workforce to more than 600 employees, making it one of the country's most significant recent additions to domestic primary aluminium capacity.

According to Century Aluminum, the project has been supported by the Section 232 aluminium tariffs introduced by the Trump administration, which the company says have encouraged increased domestic aluminium production on national security grounds.

Senior government officials and Century Aluminum's leadership will deliver remarks at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by media interactions, highlighting the strategic importance of the Mt. Holly expansion and its role in strengthening US primary aluminium production. 

Century Aluminum is the largest primary aluminium producer in the United States and the second largest in Iceland. Its aluminium is supplied to industries including defence, infrastructure, transportation, aerospace and consumer goods. The inauguration event is scheduled for July 27, 2026, at the Century Aluminum Mt. Holly Smelter in Goose Creek, South Carolina.
