Capral Aluminium’s Bremer Park extrusion facility celebrates two decades of shaping Australian industry

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Capral Aluminium marks the 20th anniversary of its Bremer Park facility in Bundamba, Queensland, which also gives the company a reason to celebrate the evolution of Australia's aluminium extrusion industry. The facility was opened in 2005 as the largest extrusion plant in the Southern Hemisphere. Since then, it has stood tall as a symbol of Capral's commitment to innovation and local manufacturing excellence.

The Bremer Park facility, which was built as part of Capral's USD 120 million-worth development project for rejuvenating Southeast Queensland's industrial landscape, has been a sign of modernisation with three state-of-the-art extrusion presses capable of manufacturing extruding profiles up to 420mm wide, 20kg/m weight, and 16m in length, utilising various aluminium alloys, such as 6060, 6005A, 6351, and 6082. The facility is also home to a vertical paint line, aluminium processing equipment and Capral's largest distribution centre, catering to diverse industries such as construction, transportation, and manufacturing.

On the occasion of the second decade anniversary, Tony Dragicevich, CEO of Capral Aluminium, said: "Bremer Park has been instrumental in helping us deliver on our long-term strategic goals. It's a world-class facility that reflects our investment in Australian manufacturing, and more importantly, in the communities where we operate. We're incredibly proud of what our team at Bremer Park has achieved over the past two decades."

In recent years, the Bremer Park facility has also emerged as a hub of sustainable aluminium extrusion production under the brand name LocAl. The plant also recently trialled 20 per cent recycled-content billet from Rio Tinto's Boyne smelter, incorporating Bremer Park's post-production scrap. In near future, Capral plans to increase the use of recycled materials and improve production efficiency with more advanced technologies.

Beyond industrial achievements, Bremer Park has also contributed to the economy and community, creating employment opportunities and supporting local suppliers.

"This site is more than a factory—it's a community of people who take great pride in what they do. Many of our team members have been with us since day one. Their commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability has been the foundation of our success," said Damir Merdovic, Extrusion Business Manager at Capral Bremer Park.
