Living Vehicle design studio, run by a husband and wife duo in California has designed a mobile home called Living Vehicle 2020. The travel trailer is a luxury mini-apartment boasting a unique structure made 100 per cent from aluminium.
“I have a vision that this vehicle can fully sustain life and be fully self-sufficient,” Matthew Hofmann, one of the designer duos said. “That one day we can all travel around not bound by any one site, in a very freedom-driven life, where we get to choose where we want to live without a resource drain on our world. Our goal is zero energy in, zero waste out.”

The 220sq ft luxurious interior of the Living Vehicle 2020 can accommodate up to six adults. The vehicle comprises an open living, dining and kitchen area; external pop-up terrace; private luxury bathroom; and the master bedroom.
The most prominent feature of the mobile home is its all-aluminium structure, including the chassis, frame, exterior facade and interior fittings. The use of aluminium makes it a low maintenance trailer and its facade is deliberately designed to oxidize naturally over time, without the need of a coating. The chassis comes in a beautiful mill finish and as Hofmann said, “is a sort of 'Living Canvas' with our Mother Nature being the painter.”
He added that the outermost surface of aluminium reacts with air and water to form a protective layer called Aluminum Oxide over the surface, which resembles a matte grey finish. This is the beauty of aluminium, which does not need a protective coating like steel.
Living Vehicle 2020 comes with solar power panels on the roof for power supply. These solar panels are adhered directly to the roof, requiring no additional penetrations in the aluminium roof sheet.
The home comes equipped with an air conditioning unit, water heater and rain water harvesting unit on the roof and other luxury features. Buyers can include additional features from a series upgrade packages. They expect roll their first deliveries by March, 2020.
