Brazil, the largest South-American country with one of the largest bauxite reserves in the world has shown nosedive in bauxite export during 2017-20.
Bauxite is the third-largest natural resource in Brazil, with 2.6 billion tonnes of the reserve.
The Paragominas bauxite mine is located in the east of the state of Pará in Northern Brazil, one of the world’s richest sources of bauxite.
The total bauxite export of Brazil from 2017-19 stood at 26.5 million tonnes approximately. The projected export for 2020 is 7.9 million tonnes, when adding up it makes 34.4 million tonnes.
In 2017 the total bauxite export showed some momentum and reflected 9.5 million tonnes. The year 2018 showed deep de-growth of 13.68%, which accounted for 8.2 million tonnes.
The year 2019 showed a bit growth of 7.31% by exporting 8.8 million tonnes of Bauxite, which earned foreign revenue of $349 million.
Brazil’s bauxite export for 2020 is estimated at 7.9 million tonnes, which is considered to be the lowest when calculated from 2017-20. The foreign exchange earnings are projected at $340 million, which is again approx. $9 million lower than the previous year.
