Brazil’s export of unwrought aluminium in 2016 is set to reach its highest since 2013. The country exported about 300,000 tonnes of the metal during January-July, marking a rise of nine per cent over the corresponding period previous year. The higher volumes of exports, which more than offset the drop in shipments from Nippon Amazon Aluminium Co Ltd (NAAC) to Japan, can be attributed to the increased shipments from Hydro controlled Albras and Votorantim’s CBA, observed analysts. The rise in shipments has made Brazil a net aluminium exporter in 2016.

According to an aluminium industry expert, unattractive aluminium premiums and depressed demand in in Brazil’s domestic market are responsible for the surge in non-alloyed aluminium ingot exports. The low premiums have impacted on the domestic sales of metal as well, as economic recession continued to hit the country’s end user sector demand rather badly.
