Brazil Exports, August 2013: Bauxite down as buyers reduce purchases

Bauxite exports from Brazil fell 25.6% year-on-year in August to 662,647 tonnes, with the USA and Ireland reducing purchases.
The exports were also down sharply from 949,860 tonnes shipped in July 2013.
Export revenue in August stood at $27.02 million, compared with $38.75 million a year earlier.
The USA decreased its imports to 231,110 tonnes, from 430,006 tonnes in August 2012. Ireland reduced its purchases as well, to 109,378 tonnes, from 219,730 tonnes in the same period last year.
China imported 48,095 tonnes of bauxite, having bought no material in the same month last year.
In the January-August period, exports were up 24.8% at 5.32 million tonnes.
All transactions were on a fob basis.
