Updates about the transaction

As disclosed to stock exchanges, the company will divest both high-pressure and low-pressure aluminium die-casting operations at the Hosur facility. However, key details of the transaction, such as the final deal structure, the identity of the potential buyer, and the sale consideration, remain undetermined.

The Chennai-based company, formerly Sundaram-Clayton DCD Limited, informed BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India that it would provide further disclosures upon executing definitive agreements. The company also stated that the completion of any transaction will be subject to regulatory approvals and other necessary permissions.

What is die-casting

SCL supplies components to domestic and international markets, leveraging its expertise in high-pressure and low-pressure die-casting technologies. Aluminium die-casting is a manufacturing process in which molten aluminium is injected under high pressure into reusable steel moulds, known as dies, to form precisely shaped metal components. This technique is widely used across the automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics industries.

High-pressure die-casting utilises greater force to inject molten aluminium into moulds, making it ideal for producing complex, thin-walled components with high dimensional accuracy and smooth surfaces. This method is well-suited for high-volume manufacturing due to its speed and efficiency. In contrast, low-pressure die-casting uses controlled air pressure to guide molten metal into the mould with less force.

This process results in components with fewer defects and superior mechanical properties, making it a preferred choice for structurally critical parts. Die-casting operations typically require specialised facilities with furnaces, casting machines, finishing tools, and quality control systems. These businesses demand substantial technical expertise and significant capital investment to ensure precision and efficiency in production.
