A substantial portion of this investment, around €500 million, is earmarked for the expansion of the plant's facilities dedicated to electric mobility. This expansion is poised to augment the annual production capacity for fifth-generation and sixth-generation aluminium housings by an impressive 30 per cent. This surge in capacity promises to bolster the production prowess of the plant, positioning it as a pivotal player in BMW's quest for electrification dominance.

Pioneering technologies in action

One of the hallmarks of this expansion endeavour is the construction of a cutting-edge production hall, boasting three levels and spanning an expansive 12,000 square meters. Here, advanced manufacturing techniques, notably the pioneering injector casting process, will take centre stage. This innovative approach not only ensures superior mechanical properties but also slashes energy consumption and carbon emissions, underscoring BMW's commitment to sustainability.

Forward-thinking investments

The foresight exhibited by BMW Group extends beyond production infrastructure. The recent acquisition of adjacent land, spanning approximately 30,000 square meters, highlights the company's readiness to meet future demands head-on.

Recognising the pivotal role of skilled manpower in driving innovation, BMW Group Plant Landshut is spearheading a comprehensive training initiative. By honing skills in robotics, quality management, and electrical analysis, among others, the plant is priming its workforce for the challenges of tomorrow.

Continued growth trajectory

Despite the challenges posed by the global landscape, BMW Group Plant Landshut remains steadfast in its growth trajectory. With a robust recruitment drive and a commitment to excellence, the plant is poised to consolidate its position as a beacon of innovation in the automotive industry.

The Head of BMW Group Plant Landshut, Thomas Thym, asserted: "We are continuously expanding our site's expertise in both the production of our cutting-edge components and the development of new technologies. This skill set provides us with the flexibility we are going to need in the future."

The production of the central housing for the sixth-generation drive technology within the Neue Klasse denotes a substantial stride towards the plant's metamorphosis into an electric mobility-oriented establishment.

Aluminium at the forefront

At the heart of BMW's manufacturing prowess lies, aluminium—a lightweight, durable, and infinitely recyclable material. From engine components to structural elements, aluminium features prominently in BMW's quest for engineering excellence.

As ASI-certified BMW Group Plant Landshut charts a course towards electrification, aluminium emerges as a linchpin in the company's sustainability efforts. With cutting-edge technologies and a skilled workforce, BMW is poised to lead the revolution toward a greener automotive future.
