Ghana Bauxite Company Limited (GBC) has appointed Ecobank Ghana PLC to arrange up to USD 250 million in financing for its expansion programme, which aims to increase bauxite production and improve mining and logistics infrastructure. The parties signed the agreement in Accra on October 28, 2026. Ecobank will structure the proposed financing and coordinate participation from other banks and financial institutions. The package includes a term loan and a revolving credit facility to cover capital investment and working capital. National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has stopped production at its Panchpatmali North-Central block bauxite mines after its lease deed for the area expired on Saturday. The company, which is awaiting renewal of the lease, said it is expecting a temporary working permit to operate the mine by December. “We have applied for a temporary working permit (TWP) for a period of one year. The status of the application will be clear by the end of this month,” said a senior official of Nalco. The grant of TWP depends upon the approval of the company’s application for forest clearance by the Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF). Bauxite company Noranda is defending itself against claims by irate farmers in the Dry Harbour Mountains of St Ann that their land reclamation efforts leave a lot to be desired. Last week, residents of Rhoden Hall, Stepney and surrounding districts took the Jamaica Observer to deep craters in the ground in their area where the land has been mined out but not yet reclaimed. Two such craters are on either side of a house occupied by Alvin Hall and his wife. Hall said he sold his land to the bauxite company and is to be relocated but is still disgruntled. A group of villagers in the district of Navakasiga in Bua have again expressed concerns over the bauxite stockpile that lay exposed at the Xinfa Aurum Exploration (Fiji Ltd) jetty area. The concern was highlighted in an earlier interview with Navakasiga district representative Salacieli Tuala who said they were earlier promised by the company that a shelter would be built over the stockpile area to contain the dust. As many as four companies have evinced interest in buying bauxite calcination plant run by state-owned mining major Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC). The plant having a production capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year is located in Kutch district.
