Ghana Bauxite Company Limited (GBC) has appointed Ecobank Ghana PLC to arrange up to USD 250 million in financing for its expansion programme, which aims to increase bauxite production and improve mining and logistics infrastructure. The parties signed the agreement in Accra on October 28, 2026. Ecobank will structure the proposed financing and coordinate participation from other banks and financial institutions. Fiji’s Nawailevu mine in Bua has exported 500m tonnes of bauxite with the recent shipment leaving the country last week. Mineral Resources Department director Malakai Finau who recently visited the project site for inspection and monitoring purpose says operation at the mine is progressing well and they are looking forward to more positive results in the coming months. Apart from bauxite, the exploration of mineral manganese ore is also progressing well and two companies namely Viti Mining and Oak Mines are currently conducting work at the site with Viti Mining already working on its first shipment. Bauxite Resources said its Felicitas project in Western Australia could support a 1.2 million tonne per annum alumina refinery for nearly half a century after it improved the site resource by 47.9%. South Goa collector N D Agrawal on Friday revoked the suspension of transportation of bauxite ore from Nakeri-Betul to the MPT following a clarification from department of mines and geology that the Supreme Court ban on mining does not extend to bauxite mining. Agrawal on Thursday had directed the owner of the bauxite mine, Mayur Gosalia, to stop transportation of bauxite ore until an explanation was received from the department of mines and geology over the issue. Agrawal had written to the department of mines and geology to clarify the matter. "I have received a letter from the department stating that the Shah Commission report has not recommended a ban on bauxite mining in the state and that the subsequent SC ban is restricted only to iron and manganese mines," he told TOI.

Shipped volumes totalled 597,550 tonnes in the month, compared with 257,352 tonnes in September last year.
