On Sunday, IT & Industries and Commerce Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu announced that the USA-based global leader in aluminium packaging has expressed interest in setting up an INR 700 crore production unit in Telangana. Telangana is a state in India situated in the southern-central part of the Indian peninsula on the high Deccan Plateau.
Ball Beverage Packaging, the USA-based global leader in aluminium packaging, has expressed interest in setting up a production unit in Telangana, which could create 500 jobs. Representatives from the company, which supplies aluminium cans to the beer, soft drinks, and perfume industries, met with the minister to discuss their expansion plans.
Sridhar Babu stated that he would discuss the matter with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Excise Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao. He noted that packaging 500 ml of beer in aluminium cans will reduce the excise duty, resulting in an additional annual income of INR 285 crore for the government.
The minister assured them of full support, including providing the necessary infrastructure. The discussion also touched on the need for changes in the excise system to facilitate the bottling of beer in aluminium cans in the state.
He also mentioned that during his visit to Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Georgia, the company expressed its readiness to establish a new bottling unit in the Peddapalli district. Ball Beverage Packaging will supply the aluminium cans for the Coke bottling. The company plans to set up a unit with an investment of INR 1,000 crore. The industries minister asked the company’s representatives to submit a detailed investment plan.
