The Azerbaijani government has unveiled plans to stop importing finished products from aluminum.
"So why do we continue importing products made of aluminum? Because only part of the work has been done. To develop manufacture of finished products from aluminum it is needed to create a technology park to operate under the Ganja aluminum plant. I appeal the Ministry of Economic Development to involve the private sector in creation of such a technology park to enhance the level of processing of aluminum in the country," Aliyev said.
Azerbaijan has two aluminum plants - in Sumgait and Ganja, and its own raw material base (alunite).
President Ilham Aliyev has claimed that a new aluminum plant opened in Ganja manufactures 50,000 tons of high quality aluminum per year and is able to produce 100,000-200,000 tons.
