Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has acknowledged AWB Aluminiumwerk Berlin GmbH’s aluminium extrusion production and mechanical process at the Berlin facility with Performance Standard V2 (2017) certification on October 6, 2022.

The facility can process up to 22,000 tonnes of aluminium billets per year, destined for the use in the building and construction sector.
The ASI Performance Standard certification recognises environmental, social, and governance principles and criteria, aiming to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under three sustainability pillars.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “ASI warmly congratulates AWB Aluminiumwerk Berlin GmbH on achieving Performance Standard Certification at its Berlin extrusion operation. Actions relevant to ASI’s biodiversity criteria are a positive highlight in this ASI Certification, even though the operations are in an industrial zone setting. We commend AWB Aluminiumwerk Berlin GmbH on their leading practice with formalized activities to protect an IUCN Red List lizard species whose habitat is on the facility’s site.”
Florian Bachnick, CEO at AWB Aluminiumwerk Berlin GmbH, said: “‘We live sustainable’ is our guideline at AWB Aluminiumwerk Berlin GmbH, and being officially certified to the ASI Performance Standard, one of the highest industry standards for sustainability and responsible practices in the aluminium industry, reflects AWB’s focus on sustainability in the complete aluminium value chain. We now look forward to achieving Chain of Custody Certification and offering ASI Certified Aluminium to our customers in the future.”
The independent, third-party audit of the AWB Aluminiumwerk Berlin GmbH operation was carried out by TÜV NORD CERT GmbH.
