Chinese A00 aluminium ingot price records plunge after two days of rise; input costs remain unchanged
After a rise in last two consecutive days, the A00 aluminium ingot price again recorded a plunge today, on December 12, from RMB 13,600 per tonne to RMB 13,540 per tonne, Shanghai Metals Market learned. The average prices are expected to range between RMB 13,520 per tonne and RMB 13,560 per tonne, with spot discounts still remaining the same at RMB 20 per tonne. The ingot prices in the east market (Wuxi and Hangzhou) plunged RMB 65 per tonne and RMB 60 per tonne and hovering at RMB 13,535 per tonne and RMB 13,575 per tonne, respectively; while the prices in the south and north dropped RMB 70 per tonne and RMB 60 per tonne to stand at RMB 13,680 per tonne and RMB 13,520 per tonne. According to a media report, Oman’s first aluminium composite panel (ACP) manufacturing plant has been recently inaugurated at Misfah Industrial Area on the outskirts of Muscat. It is the latest diversification of the Mohammed Riaz & Partners group, a leading building materials company, added the Oman Observer report. Construction of EGA’s bauxite mining project in Guinea reaches 75 per cent
The construction of Emirates Global Aluminium’s (EGA) bauxite mining project in the Republic of Guinea has reached almost 75 per cent, reported the company itself. Developed by EGA’s subsidiary Guinea Alumina Corp (GAC), the total budget of the project is around US$1.4 billion, the largest greenfield investment in the West African country in the last four decades. The first bauxite export from this project is expected during the second half of 2019. Currently, almost 3,000 Guineans are working for constructing the project, and so far taken some 23 million man-hours of work, equivalent to one person working for some 18,000 years. According to an update from Shanghai Metals Market, social inventories of primary aluminium continued to extend its fall across eight consumption areas in China, including SHFE warrants, and stood at 1.32 million tonnes, as of Monday, December 10. This marked a decline by some 35,000 tonnes from Thursday, December 6. Lower arrivals to social warehouses and greater deliveries departing extended declines in inventories, SMM learned. Engaged in processing aluminium primarily in China, the company named Xinjiang Joinworld Co. Ltd., reportedly revealed its plan of building an alumina refinery in Guinea. The news came when Xinjiang Joinworld announced its project plan worth US$ 831 million after a filing to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on Monday, December 3. Per the report, the plant will be built in the next one month in a special economic zone in the vicinity of the coastal city of Boffa. China Customs data found that yuan’s depreciation, as well as trade uncertainty in the overseas market demand, prompted firms to rush out shipments and drove up unwrought aluminium and aluminium products exports in November 2018. Per the data, China exported 536,000 tonnes of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products in November, up some 54,000 tonnes from October. This means China’s unwrought aluminium and aluminium products exports in October stood at 482,000 tonnes. Hence, China’s November aluminium exports registered a growth of 11 per cent month-on-month. China sees a 6.7% rise in alumina production for November: SMM
According to Shanghai Metals Market, China’s total alumina production in November came in at 6.08 million tonnes, with average daily output at 203,000 tonnes. This marked a growth by 6.7 per cent from a year ago and 4.1 per cent from a month earlier. The entire production from January to November, thus, totalled at 64.3 million tonnes, 2.3 per cent higher than the same period last year.
